How did Grupo Bimbo come about?
Bimbo started operations on December 2, 1945 with only 34 associates in a small bakery in Mexico City, located on 58 Norte street number 117 in the Santa María Insurgentes neighborhood.
The vision of its founders was to “make really good bread, nutritious, tasty and fresh; do it well, in a clean manner, with the greatest perfection possible and with the intent to nourish, please and thus, reach all households in Mexico”.
The founders of the Company were Lorenzo Servitje, Jaime Jorba, Jaime Sendra, José T. Mata, Alonso Velasco and Roberto Servitje.
The name “Bimbo” appeared for the first time in a list of proposed names drafted by the founders in 1943, marked in a red circle among various other names such as: Pan Rex, Pan NSE (acronym in Spanish from the words nutritious, tasty and affordable,), Sabrosoy, Pan Lirio, Pan Nieve and Pan Azteca. The main hypothesis is that the chosen name resulted from combining the words Bingo ?the popular gambling game ? and Bambi, the famous Disney film.
Who is Roberto Servitje?
Don Roberto is one of the founders of Grupo Bimbo. He was born in Mexico City in 1928. When his father died, he was cared for by his mother and brother Lorenzo.

This entrepreneur ?a mechanic, a salesman, a zealous traveler, and even a pilot, with over one thousand-flight hours? and his work have contributed, to make Grupo Bimbo the largest food products company in Mexico and one of the most important ones in the world.
The Certificate of incorporation of Panificación Bimbo was signed on July 4, 1945, and the image of the company resulted from a drawing of a bear cub that Mr. Jaime Jorba received in a Christmas card and to which, Ana Mata, Mr. Jaime Sendra’s wife, put on a baker’s hat, an apron and a loaf of bread under the arm; Mr. Velasco fixed its eyes and nose.
