Bruno Ferrari, Minister of the Economy of Mexico, representing the President Felipe Calderón, today presented the 2011 National Quality Award (Premio Nacional de Calidad 2011) to the Barcel Lerma Plant in the State of Mexico.

The Federal official presented the award corresponding to the Large Industry Category to Gabino Gómez Cabajal, President of the Barcel Organization in a ceremony held at the National Anthropology and History Museum. During the event, Daniel Servitje, Grupo Bimbo CEO, was distinguished by all the winning companies to address the audience.

In its 2011 edition, 90 organizations participated in an evaluation process based on the National Competitiveness Model, supported by an objective and transparent methodology endorsed by the Instituto para el Fomento a la Calidad Total A. C.

It was estimated that the Barcel Lerma Plant is constantly innovating its production line, ahead of market trends. The quality of its products was assessed -which complies with new regulations- as well as its growing market share and its distribution capacity.

Daniel Servitje, in his speech during the Awards Ceremony, stated that enterprises participating in the effort to heighten the culture of quality, plant a seed that helps form better Mexicans. He ended up saying, “In the measure that the culture of quality and competitiveness is fostered, a great job is done on behalf of Mexico, since attitudes are changed and deeper knowledge is generated. Mexico needs many more of these institutions”.

On his part, when presenting the award, Bruno Ferrari, Minister of the Economy of Mexico, stated: “Thanks to its structure and processes Barcel Lerma has risen as a national example of organizational excellence, thus becoming a role model for other companies in the Country”.

Various officials from the Ministry of the Economy attended the Awards Ceremony, as well as representatives of entrepreneurial organizations such as CANACINTRA, CONCAMIN, COPARMEX and the Entrepreneurial Coordination Council.
