Reducing Water Consumption
Effective water management begins with understanding how water is used in each process. Access to reliable information enables organizations to improve processes, adopt more efficient technologies, and steadily reduce water consumption over time.
Grupo Bimbo has strengthened its water monitoring and management systems across its operations in Mexico and globally, enabling the company to identify improvement opportunities at each facility and drive a gradual, sustained reduction in water use throughout its operations.
Water Circularity
In addition to reducing consumption, another key pillar of the company’s strategy is reusing water whenever possible. In its Mexican operations, Grupo Bimbo has implemented industrial water conditioning systems that treat water used in production processes and reintegrate it into various operational services within the same facility, in compliance with applicable environmental regulations.
In 2025, 97% of the water conditioned by Grupo Bimbo in Mexico was reused in this manner, reflecting the company’s continued progress toward a more circular operation.
This culture of reuse also extends to specific processes. In vehicle washing areas, including automated wash stations and pressure-washing systems in Mexico, Grupo Bimbo uses 100% recycled water, demonstrating how circularity can be integrated throughout the operation, beyond core production processes.
Water Stewardship Begins in the Field
Grupo Bimbo incorporates efficient water management as a key component of its regenerative agriculture program, promoting practices that optimize water use, strengthen the resilience of agricultural systems, and contribute to the sustainability of its supply chains.
Regenerative agriculture seeks to restore soil health, improve biodiversity, and strengthen ecosystems. Healthier soils can retain more moisture, supporting more efficient water use and increasing resilience to changing environmental conditions.
As of the end of 2025, Grupo Bimbo had more than 500,000 hectares under regenerative agriculture practices, representing an increase of nearly 73% compared to the more than 290,000 hectares reported at the end of 2024. This progress reinforces the company’s efforts at the origin of its value chain and reflects its belief that nourishing a better world begins with healthy soils.
Innovation to Address Water Stress
Water stress requires targeted solutions. Different regions face different challenges, and not all crops require the same interventions. For this reason, in addition to improving overall processes, it is essential to identify region-specific risks and develop focused mitigation plans.
Grupo Bimbo expanded its water stress assessments across sourcing regions to design mitigation plans aimed at safeguarding the continuity of key crops.
In a context of increasing pressure on water resources, optimizing water use, expanding reuse, and proactively managing water-related risks are critical to strengthening the resilience of both operations and surrounding communities.
