As part of the celebration of World Wildlife Day, together with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, we signed a collaboration agreement to implement conservation, monitoring, and environmental education actions linked to the Mexican black bear (Ursus americanus eremicus).
The agreement establishes that we will join forces around the project “From Conflict to Coexistence: Safeguarding Wildlife Corridors in Mexico for Sustainable Development”, with the aim of strengthening conservation actions for the Mexican black bear in its natural habitat.
The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Alicia Bárcena, stated during the opening of the Bimbo Interactive Museum (MiBIMBO) on December 2: “I thank Grupo Bimbo because they are committed to this cause of caring for the black bear. It is a project of great importance, as it involves an endangered species. What we must do together is change the perception that exists about the black bear. I am deeply grateful because I know they are committed to the cause; we need more companies like Bimbo and their environmental awareness.”
Since our origins, we have carried in our identity the image of a “little bear,” which naturally connects with the Mexican black bear, an emblematic and vulnerable species of Mexico. Today, that symbolic connection is translated into a structured initiative that seeks to actively contribute to its preservation.
This agreement marks the beginning of a key phase within the Huellas Program, a comprehensive initiative promoted by the Bimbo Interactive Museum (MiBIMBO), which brings together scientific, educational, and multisector collaboration efforts through the participation of the public sector and institutions to contribute to the preservation of the black bear and other emblematic species of the country.
The Program’s efforts will be mainly concentrated in the states of Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Sonora, where Mexican black bear populations face greater challenges derived from human expansion and the effects of climate change.
The Huellas Program includes:
The Director of MiBIMBO, Karina Fogel, said: “The signing of this agreement with SEMARNAT represents a fundamental step within a broader initiative that brings together science, education, and collaboration among different sectors to protect the black bear and promote a culture of coexistence. This is an effort that is only possible thanks to the joint work of allies committed to conservation. From the Bimbo Interactive Museum, we want every visitor to understand that the protection of our biodiversity is also built through awareness and participation.”
As part of the sustainability model of this initiative, part of the revenue generated from MiBIMBO ticket sales will be allocated to the Huellas Program, turning each visit into an active contribution to the preservation of the black bear in Mexico.
With this, we renew our commitment to Mexico, to its biodiversity, and to future generations, promoting long-term solutions that foster coexistence between communities and wildlife.
