Lima, Peru- Honoring its commitment to promoting the integral development of children and gender equity, Grupo Bimbo becomes the leading partner of FC Barcelona’s first female team. This way, it will continue to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion globally, relying on the recognition and influence the club has worldwide, with the support and example of its women’s team.

As such, the "Futbolito Bimbo 2023" championship arrives in Peru, focusing for the first time on female teams to empower girls and encourage the development of women’s talent.  This tournament has been held in other countries for almost 60 years, starting at our headquarters in Mexico.

The championship will be celebrated together with Fundación Deporte en Igualdad, who, like Bimbo Peru, see football as a means to generate spaces of equality and growth for minors. The call will be open and free in Lima from this Monday, April 24. The championship will consist of 8 teams of girls no older than 12 years and will last 4 weeks. The winning team will receive mobile phones, and the player that gets the fair play recognition will win a double trip to Barcelona.

"This is the most important initiative for Grupo Bimbo, as it reflects our purpose of "Nourishing a Better World" through the integral development of children and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Futbolito Bimbo aims to empower our girls and challenge gender stereotypes in sports. We want them to become role models, demonstrating that both men and women have the same opportunities," said Aivy Schroth, VP of marketing and innovation for South Latin America of Grupo Bimbo.

To strengthen this commitment, Bimbo Peru joins the first Women’s Football League organized by Carmen de la Legua, a district that hosts one of its bakeries, sponsoring its first tournament focused on women. The event will be held on the fields recovered with the help of the Municipality and will feature the participation of 12 teams that will compete for the district cup. The tournament will last 3 months, and the call will begin soon for all female residents of the district.

The event that initiated this agreement in Peru was held at the Héctor Chumpitaz Sports Complex in Carmen de la Legua, and was attended by personalities such as the Minister of Women, Nancy Tolentino, the outstanding player and two-time champion of Alianza Lima, Adriana Lúcar, the mayor of Carmen de la Legua, Edwards Infante López and the representatives of Bimbo, Aivy Schroth, VP of marketing and innovation for South Latin America and Mauricio Olvera, country manager of Bimbo Peru.
